Your healthcare provider may instruct you to fast before having certain laboratory tests performed.

How long do I need to fast?

Typically, you will be instructed to fast eight to ten hours before having your blood drawn. However, you should always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions.

Can I eat or drink when fasting?

When fasting, do not consume any food or drink with the exception of water.

Should I take my medications?

You should take your medications as usual unless your healthcare provider instructs you otherwise.
